Khal at the Audio Foundation gallery

November 5 – 28, 2015

The Audio Foundation Gallery
4 Poynton Terrace Auckland, NZ

Audio Foundation gallery presented the fifth iteration of Helga Fassonaki’s ongoing project Khal, which she began in Tabriz, Iran in September 2014. Fassonaki had sent sixteen sculptural scores she made in Iran abroad for sixteen female artists to interpret and perform publicly in response to the post-revolution ban on female solo performances.  The original scores and recorded interpretations by the participating artists were exhibited at The Audio Foundation, part of a traveling exhibition where each iteration includes recordings and artifacts from the exhibition before as well as live performances of the scores by new artists.

Four of the original score recipients will performed Fassonaki’s scores live
on November 5th:
Kathleen Kim Punk Standards
Angeline Chirnside Hypocrisy
Purple Pilgrims Hum, Hum, Hum, Hum, Hum
Rachel Shearer with Beth Ducklingmonster 8 Pillars
